You walk through the door into a brightly illuminated room full of many old photographs. Most of the photographs show a young African American man with his father and in some photos both of the men are drawing and painting. The older man also appears to be a barber. As you examine the photos your realize these must be photos of Ellis Wilson and his father and it appears that his father was both a barber and an artist!
As you continue walking through the room the photos begin to show Ellis Wilson growing into a young man and working on brightly colored paintings. Suddenly a voice from somewhere in the room tells you “You are doing well young adventurer! Many of Ellis Wilson’s paintings used very intense colors, which means they are brightly colored, however the very first artwork that began his career as an artist was not colorful at all. In fact, it was a portrait drawn with soap on a store window where Wilson worked as a janitor! Portraits are pictures of people and the people that entered the store liked his soap portrait so much that they encouraged him to make more window drawings!”

You take a moment to appreciate some of the paintings in the photographs and
continue through a door at the other end of the room.
